What is Fe?
A description of Fe as a lived experience.
- Fe is not people-pleasing. It's not codependency. It's not emotional weakness.
- Fe is a cognitive function oriented around relational attunement — sensing the emotional field of a room, adjusting to create harmony, holding space for others' experience as a primary mode of engaging with the world.
- Fe is generative. It creates safety, connection, clarity for others. It is the function that makes collective life possible.
- Fe is also largely invisible — because what it produces (harmony, ease, felt safety) disappears into the background the moment it works.
- NFJs specifically: Fe paired with Ni means the attunement arrives with pattern recognition and systemic awareness. Not just sensing what others need — but seeing why, and what it means, and where it's going.
- Yes, SFJ types also lead with Fe, but the pairing with Si rather than Ni produces a fundamentally different orientation and a different, less costly/invisible, pattern of marginalization.
